What is Ethereum?

Ethereum is a programmable blockchain for smart contracts, decentralised applications and digital assets. ETH is its native asset, used to pay transaction fees and secure the network.

How the network works

Ethereum uses proof-of-stake validators to agree on the chain. Smart contracts execute code on the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Layer-2 networks process activity separately and use Ethereum for settlement or data availability, with different security assumptions.

Token utility and supply

ETH pays for gas and can be staked to participate in consensus. A portion of transaction fees is burned, while validator rewards issue ETH. Supply can increase or decrease depending on network activity and issuance.

Understanding the ETH price

The Ethereum price changes as buyers and sellers trade across venues. Liquidity, available supply, project developments and broader market conditions can all matter. The USD quote and seven-day chart help compare recent movement; they do not predict the next move.

Market capitalisation is price multiplied by circulating supply. It is not the amount of cash invested in a token, and a large market cap does not mean every holder can sell at the displayed price.

Liquidity, valuation and risk

Trading volume measures reported activity over a period. Compare it with market capitalisation and the liquidity available at the venue you actually use. Thin order books can produce large differences between a displayed price and the price of an order.

Review token releases, ownership concentration, network security and custody arrangements. Avoid confusing nominal staking rewards with a guaranteed dollar return. Wallet transactions may be irreversible, and smart contracts, bridges and centralised providers introduce different risks.

Frequently asked questions

What is Ethereum (ETH)?

Ethereum is a programmable blockchain for smart contracts, decentralised applications and digital assets. ETH is its native asset, used to pay transaction fees and secure the network.

How is the ETH price calculated?

The displayed USD quote comes from CoinGecko's aggregated market data. Prices can differ between exchanges because of liquidity, trading pairs, fees and timing. Check the data timestamp before relying on a quote.

What is Ethereum's market capitalisation?

Market capitalisation is the current price multiplied by circulating supply. The displayed figure is $308,751,207,225.00 at the provider's reported update. It describes valuation, not guaranteed sale proceeds or cash invested.

Why does the ETH price change?

Supply and demand, liquidity, network developments, token releases and broader market conditions can affect ETH. A recent price move alone does not establish its cause or predict future performance.

Can I buy ETH on Crypto Loop?

Crypto Loop provides market information and education. Trading is not available on this website. Compare providers' jurisdiction, custody, fees and risks before using another service.

How should I research Ethereum?

Start with the project's official documentation, then examine token supply, releases, security history and real network usage. Compare independent sources and understand how you would hold the asset. Past performance is not a guarantee of future returns.
